5 SIMPLE WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR DIGITAL MESSAGING

“Have a clear message about what you’re selling and don’t beat around the bush in telling your potential clients about why they need your product or services.”

In a competitive environment, it’s quite easy for a business to get left behind. Good- or bad- communications can make or break a business.

Everything you do is ultimately about selling your message- whether it’s talking face-to-face, web, social media or advertising channels- communication is the basis of all business transactions.

With the digital age upon us, effective digital communication is vital to how your business is seen by potential clients.

There are 5 simple ways to improve your business communications and ensure your message cuts through in what is a saturated market:

    Be Clear

You might be the most complex business on the planet, but if clients can’t understand what you do, you may be turning them away. The clearer your messaging, the easier it is for people to relate to.

I’m sure you remember the KISS method (Keep It Simple, Stupid), which is relevant in all messaging, as is the 3 C’s of communication (Clear, Concise and Consistent).Have a clear message about what you’re selling and don’t beat around the bush in telling your potential clients about why they need your products or services.

Know who you're creating digital content for. It’s counterproductive to spend time sending irrelevant information into the digital world and your time could be much better spent. Speaking from experience, you can save yourself time and money by understanding what content your audience likes and when to post it. Do a quick audit of previous posts to see what got the most traction and find a formula that works for your business.

    Be Concise

There’s no need to write an essay every time you post on Facebook or write a description on your website. Facebook algorithms don’t support lengthy posts- keep it to two or three lines, include engaging images and watch your audience grow.

With so much content readily available to consumers, your communications need to be to the point to capture as much attention as possible. If you are constantly bombarding your audience with short novels to read, you risk them avoiding your business completely.

    Be Creative

Don’t be afraid to get creative, be unique and represent your brand in an enjoyable way.

There are many free and easy to use design sites such as Canva which has thousands of templates and ideas to help you on your path to creative communications and marketing. Resources like Pinterest also have  endless amounts of inspiration to help you create something unique.

    Be Consistent

Consistency is key. The only way to build strong brand awareness is through consistent messaging. Brand consistency creates a pattern which impacts the way people think and feel about your business.

The marketing rule of 7 states that a prospect needs to hear your message at least 7 times before they take action to buy your product or service. If your messaging isn’t consistent over these 7 touches, chances are the potential customer won’t understand what you stand for or provide and won’t utilise your business. To set yourself up for success, it is a worthwhile exercise to develop brand guidelines or key messaging which you can then incorporate into all your communications.

    Be Correct

In an online world, people can easily research anything you say and will point out your mistakes immediately. It is vital that you proofread everything before sending it out or posting online. Be sure to use credible sources for anything that you reference, ensure that all statistics or charts are accurate and that your message is legible.

Combined, these five simple methods can significantly improve your digital presence.
